Compost, compost, COMPOST!

Do you have lots of onion skins, eggshells, or banana peels after cooking or preparing a meal? How about coffee grounds? Don't throw those away! Donate your kitchen scraps to the compost pile located at the Reidsville Community Garden! Through the power of aerobic bacteria, everyday items that we would throw away can be turned into beautiful soil that is filled with lots of nutrients that allow plants to thrive (like this Zinnia on the right)! Keep your kitchen scraps and then throw them in the compost pile at the end of the week to help the community garden grow more!

Donations!

We gladly appreciate monetary donations, as well as any kind of physical donation. We are always in need of plastic grocery bags, as we use them to store produce in and then give away the bags.

If you would like to make a donation, please contact us using the link at the bottom of the page or talk to us in person on one of the garden workdays! Please contact us before donating an item to make sure we have a use for it. Thank you for your support!

Garden Policy

Some community gardens are plot-based where specific individuals can buy plots and grow their own plants within a certain space. However, there are not any purchasable plots in the Reidsville Community Garden. All plants are cared for by a collective volunteer body. Because of this, we ask volunteers to be considerate of the space and flora within the garden, as well as the time other volunteers have spent in the garden. If you are unsure of whether or not you should do something in the garden, ask a volunteer who is more regular or knowledgeable for their input. Even if you are an experienced gardener, we ask that you do not make any drastic changes to the garden without input from other volunteers. The Reidsville Community Garden is no one's specific space. It is the community's space and let's treat it that way! Thank you!

Safety Guidelines

Although it is unlikely, injuries can occur within the garden space. Here are a few guidelines to follow to make your garden experience the most pleasurable:

  • Use the right tool for the right job and be aware of your surroundings to avoid hitting others.

  • ALWAYS wear closed-toed shoes (sneakers, boots, NOT sandals or flip-flops) to mitigate the chances of damage to the feet.

  • During summer days and other times where the sun is shining bright, wear sunscreen.

  • Wear gloves when using large tools such as shovels or pitchforks to avoid blistering of the hands.

  • Apply bug spray to avoid mosquitos and ticks during bug season.
